Here are some activities all about
“Hospitals“
Set up a hospital scene in a corner of a room in your home. Playing doctors or nurses and patients can extend children’s vocabulary and also be a good way for them to play through any of their experiences of doctors and make sense of them
You will need:
- A doctor’s/nurse’s outfit
- A bear/doll or two and dolly’s bed, blankets and pillow
- A toy doctor’s bag with stethoscope etc (you could make some pretend ones)
- Some bandages and other harmless items from your first aid kit, protective gloves, mask, apron etc
- You could make some hospital signs to help it to look real!
- A prescription pad or similar and pencil
Let the children have free play with the hospital then:-
Number Activity.
Size and counting to 3, 5 or 8 (you will need big sheets of paper for drawing on)
We need to make the big toys and dolls better first so let’s see if you can put them in order with the big ones first. How many toys are there? I have 4 bears here. The biggest one is in the blue suit. The orange one is next. The 2 little ones are about the same size as each other.
Can you draw your toys or dolls or my bears in a row with the biggest first?
Can you count how many hand paws they have altogether?
What about their foot pads?
I Can draw my toys and bears. I can draw them order from the big to the little one. I can count to 4 while pointing to them. I can draw their hand paws and I can also draw their feet. Choose the colours for their clothes. Which colours have you used?

Talk about the story and how to stay healthy.
- Exercise every day
- Sleep well every night
- We need to eat good food
Lunch time! So what can we eat to make us stay healthy? A good guide is to have several colours of food on your plate. Let’s make some lunch. You choose what you like to eat. Here are some ideas:
I Can help make my lunch and eat it with mummy and daddy
After lunch let’s make a game. Choose some photos or draw some pictures of your dollies. Here is my game. Cut out some doll/bear/toy images and make up your own rules! The winner wins something of their choice!!
I Can make my own game and play it with my family
Today’s Song – Miss Polly had a dolly
The tune is on the video below
Miss Polly Had a Dolly
- Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick.
- So she called for the doctor to come quick, quick, quick.
- The doctor came with his bag and his hat,
- And he knocked on the door, with a rat-a-tat-tat.
- He looked at the dolly and he shook his head,
- And he said,“Miss Polly put her straight to bed.”
- He wrote on a paper for a pill, pill, pill.
- That would make it better yes it will, will, will.
Sing the song and do the actions
I Can sing it on my own
Time for some exercise. Now we can go for a walk and collect some twigs and leaves. Let’s make sure you can put your own coat on without help, and your hat, scarf and gloves. When we come home and you’ve hung your coat up on the hook, look what we can make together!
